Dr. Cannerts’ discovery of a way to keep infectious people alive and healthy would have led to a major conflict at the hospital. “We had a great cuckoo’s nest kind of division: the hospital filled with sick and dying people,” executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine, “versus a community of people trying to hold on and survive in functional ways by deciding what to do about communication and martial law, and how to feed themselves and how to teach their kids and how to be intimate with each other.” Meanwhile, Police Major Lex would have had a “complicated” time adjusting to life inside the cordon with Jana, and his buddy Jake would have eventually gotten a new lady friend after losing Katie. And don’t worry, Katie’s son Quentin would have definitely escaped the cordon as “Season 2 would have continued to be about ways to eventually get healthy people out.”
