Walker

James Van Der Beek’s appearance in the series finale’s final seconds as the Walkers’ new neighbor was teeing up a storyline about the “kooky cult” next door, with the actor playing the “quirky bad, but amusing” cult leader, showrunner Anna Fricke revealed to TVLine, adding that August was “going to fall in love with the girl next door, get dragged into the cult, have to be extracted.” As for the ring box Cordell pocketed before taking off for vacation with Geri and his kids, that would have been a storyline throughout Season 5, “as in, like, he didn’t ask, or he did and it went south, or something happened,” before inevitably ending with the couple’s engagement. Meanwhile, Cordell would have returned to the Rangers (but maybe not forever?) to be partnered with Trey, with Lieutenant Cassie Perez now having to corral the pair and act as Captain James’ number two. Finally, Liam would be doing “high-stakes government stuff” after being called in by the governor to help with his daughter’s kidnapping.
